This black bear with blonde fur was spotted on the north side of Segerstrom Creek. The healthy population of black bears in Lake Dorothey State Wildlife Area and Sugarite Canyon State Park are dependent on vegetation for about 90 percent of their diet, including acorns and chokecherries.
Oil and gas development will create disturbance for wildlife and eliminate some necessary habitat.
This view looking east from SE tip of the cap rock on Fishers Peak shows the area where a proposed access road would cut through the Lake Dorothey State Wildlife Area. The lake in the upper right is Lake Maloya.
